Zengo Review
Quick take
Zengo is a self-custodial crypto wallet with built-in Ethereum staking. Instead of using a seed phrase, the wallet uses multi-party computation and account-recovery controls to divide responsibility for authorizing transactions. Its earn product is convenient for users who already hold ETH in Zengo, but it is narrower than the selection offered by many Ethereum staking platforms. Users also need to account for a minimum stake, network fees, an activation period before rewards begin, and a separate waiting period when unstaking.
How earning works
Users open the Earn section in the Zengo app, select Ethereum, choose an amount, review the estimated variable rate and network fee, and authorize the staking transaction. Zengo currently uses Everstake as its staking provider.
The minimum Ethereum stake is 0.1 ETH. After the staking request is submitted, it takes approximately 12 days for the ETH to begin earning. Rewards accrue daily and are automatically added to the staked balance. There is no fixed term, but unstaking and claiming the original ETH and rewards takes approximately 10 days.
Rates, fees, and requirements
The staking rate is variable and depends on Ethereum network conditions and validator performance. Users should rely on the current estimate shown in the app rather than older screenshots or promotional examples.
Zengo states that it does not add a platform fee to this staking flow. Blockchain network fees apply when staking and withdrawing, so the economics are less attractive for smaller balances even when the 0.1 ETH minimum is met.
Custody and key risks
Zengo is non-custodial: the user retains authority over the wallet rather than depositing ETH into a conventional exchange account. Its MPC recovery design removes the need to secure a single seed phrase, but it does not remove staking risk. Users still depend on the Ethereum protocol, Everstake's validator operation, Zengo's wallet software and recovery system, and the availability of the underlying network. Rewards are not guaranteed, and the value of ETH can change materially while assets are activating or unstaking.
Related features
Zengo also supports buying, selling, swapping, WalletConnect, multiple networks, and optional paid features such as additional wallets, withdrawal-delay controls, inheritance tools, and transaction-risk alerts. These wallet features may be useful, but most do not increase the staking return. Readers comparing wallet-based and other non-custodial products can also review the site's onchain app comparisons.
Best for
Zengo is best for existing Zengo users who want to stake a qualifying ETH balance without moving it to an exchange and who are comfortable with validator dependency, network fees, and multi-day activation and exit periods.
